ABOUT HIPSA
The Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association, (HIPSA), a Not for Profit Company, registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013, headquartered in India, is the first to exclusively be set up with an aim to promote and 'Integrate' our Pravasi Bhartiya youth into our country through the medium of Sports with a special focus on those Sports that India is proud of, and our Pravasi youth dreams to be part of. Cricket, Kabaddi, Chess, Kho-Kho, Mallakhamb, Kusti, Archery are some of the Sports that our country has grown to become Internationally renowned.
HIPSA primarily has two objectives
- To spread our Indigenous sports globally amongst Pravasi Community (those living outside India)
- To integrate our Pravasi Bharati youth back to their Motherland, through the medium of Sports
It is the vision of our Government to make our Traditional sports popular globally, and It is also the dream of every young Indian sports person living outside to be invited to participate in these Sports in India, and HIPSA endeavours to prepare and atmosphere for achieving both these objectives.
To ensure that the Pravasi Community is trained in our indigenous sports and invited to participate in the same in India and also ensure that our Pravasi Bharati sport- persons come to India and participate in sports dear to them. HIPSA Shall promote and encourage the physical, moral and cultural spirit of the Pravasi Bharti youth through the medium of Sports for their integration from their 'Karmabhoomi' to their 'Mathrubhoomi'.
Sports, along with 'Yoga as a Practice' & 'Culture for Knowledge' are the Holistic objectives laid down in HIPSA'S vision for the future.
Facts about the Indian Diaspora Community
- Indian Diaspora with a 32 million population has the largest geographical spread with a presence in 207 countries of the world
- The maximum numbers of Indian Diaspora countries are in the African continent with a presence in 55 countries of the African continent
- The maximum population of the Indian Diaspora is in the Asian continent with over 17 Million, followed by North American continent with over 6.3 million Diaspora Indians
- 19 countries of the world have a Indian Diaspora population of over 10%
- 7 countries have an Indian Diaspora population above 25%
- More than 1 million Indian students are currently studying in about 85 countries of the world as of 2023.
Facts about Indias Indigenous Sports
- European countries like Hungary and Poland are seeing increased interest in Kabaddi. Kenya, Tanzania in the African Continent and Egypt in the Middle East is taking fast to the Sport of Kabaddi
- Outside India, Yoga is widely practiced in USA, UK, Brazil, Australia and Canada, with USA alone having more than 35 million practicing yoga
- Mallakhamb is being taught in Germany, Netherlands, Poland and Belgium and is popular amongst the diaspora community in Singapore and Malaysia
- Silambattam is widely practiced amongst the Tamil community in Srilanka and Malaysia
- Kalaripayattu is popular in several countries outside of India, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the United States. It is also practiced in other parts of the world, as seen through its inclusion in international films and series.
